Seogwipo City has announced that it will begin accepting applications for the 'Farmer's Allowance Support Project' from March 4th to March 28th at the township and neighborhood community service centers to stabilize farm management and revitalize the local economy. Online applications are also available through the government website (https://www.gov.kr).

The application is open to new applicants for the 2025 Farmer's Allowance, and applicants must submit a confirmation of farm location from the village head or a confirmation of cultivation from neighboring residents. Beneficiaries from 2024 will receive the allowance without a separate application process if they meet the eligibility requirements.

The eligibility criteria are as follows: As of January 1, 2025, applicants must have been residing in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province for more than three consecutive years and have been registered in the agricultural management information system for more than two consecutive years. They must be full-time farmers engaged in actual farming.

Starting this year, even farmers who are employed and enrolled in the National Health Insurance Program can receive the allowance if their total income from non-agricultural activities is less than 37 million won. This is an improvement from the previous policy that excluded all employed individuals, and it aims to provide benefits to farmers who are actually engaged in agriculture by adding an income criterion.

However, those with a total income from non-agricultural activities of 37 million won or more, those with outstanding local taxes as of the application date, and those who have received administrative sanctions for violating the Farmland Act, the Mountainous Districts Management Act, or the Act on the Prevention of Contagious Animal Diseases within the past two years are still excluded from the eligibility.

The Farmer's Allowance is scheduled to be finalized and paid in May after verifying the eligibility of the applicants. The Farmer's Allowance will be paid in the form of a Tamnaneunjeon card, with 400,000 won per applicant, and must be used by December 31st of this year.

In 2024, a total of 8.545 billion won was paid to 21,362 farming households as the Farmer's Allowance.

Go Bong-gu, head of the Citrus Farming Division, said, "We hope that this will alleviate the burden on farming households due to high interest rates and high prices and contribute to the revitalization of the local economy. In particular, this year, farmers with certain income levels who are employed can also receive benefits, so we urge eligible farmers to apply within the period."
