South Jeolla Province Invests 90 Billion KRW to Strengthen Global Competitiveness of Seafood Industry

On February 25th, South Jeolla Province announced its plan to invest approximately 90 billion KRW this year to enhance the global competitiveness of its seafood industry. This investment aims to support 52 projects across four key areas: fostering the seafood industry, establishing a new distribution system, developing the sun-dried salt industry, and supporting youth entrepreneurship.

Key Investment Details:

Enhancing Seafood Processing Capacity:Construction of an international dried seaweed exchange and rental processing plants within the seafood export complex (total project cost: 113.7 billion KRW).
Support of 53.9 billion KRW for 15 projects, including the construction of seafood production and processing facilities and the improvement of dried seaweed processing facilities.
Requesting the government to allocate 30 billion KRW for the modernization of dried seaweed processing plants in the supplementary budget and 60 billion KRW for the government's dried seaweed reserve project.
Establishing a New Distribution System:Construction of dried seaweed logistics complexes (FDC·FPC).
Construction of seafood cold storage facilities and support for the distribution of seafood boxes.
Investment of 22.6 billion KRW in 21 projects, including the improvement of seafood market facilities.
Strengthening the Sun-dried Salt Industry:Supply of automated equipment such as automated salt harvesters.
Support for sanitary facilities, including the improvement of salt pan flooring.
Support of 10.8 billion KRW for 14 projects, including enhancing brand value through salt fairs.
Supporting Youth Entrepreneurship:Support for marine and fisheries startup investment.
Support for new startups through seedling company growth support.
Support of 2 billion KRW for innovative product development, investment attraction capacity building, expert technical training, and export market development.
Kang Seok-woon, head of the Fisheries Distribution and Processing Division of South Jeolla Province, stated, "We will support South Jeolla's seafood companies to establish more systematic and competitive processing and distribution systems. We will continue to promote various policies for the development of the regional seafood industry and the expansion of exports."
