Daejeon, South Korea – The Daejeon Shinsegae Gallery is thrilled to announce the upcoming exhibition, "Master of Color: Henri Matisse," which will run from December 13, 2023, to February 23, 2025. Featuring over 100 works, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the late masterpieces of one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.
Known as the pioneer of Fauvism and a titan of modern art alongside Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse’s bold use of color and simplified forms revolutionized the art world. The exhibition, themed “LOVE & JAZZ,” delves into Matisse’s later works, particularly his iconic "cut-out" series, exploring how the artist continued to innovate even as he faced physical limitations.
As Matisse's health declined, he turned to a new technique: cut-outs. Using scissors and paper, he created intricate collages that were as much about design as they were about painting. Inspired by his travels to Tahiti and Morocco, these works, often featuring vibrant colors and simplified forms, reflect the artist's fascination with rhythm and harmony. The exhibition also showcases Matisse’s artist books, which combined his love of literature with his visual art.
"The cut-outs are a testament to Matisse's enduring creativity," said [Curator's Name], the curator of the exhibition. "They demonstrate how an artist can continue to experiment and evolve, even in the face of adversity."
Key highlights of the exhibition include:
Cut-out series: A wide range of Matisse's iconic cut-outs, showcasing his unique style and use of color.
Artist books: A collection of Matisse's artist books, which combined his love of literature with his visual art.
Drawings: A selection of Matisse's drawings, demonstrating his mastery of line and composition.
Immersive experiences: Visitors can explore the behind-the-scenes of Matisse's famous "Red Room" through a multimedia installation and take a photo in a replica of the Chapelle du Rosaire, one of his most iconic architectural works.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to experience the brilliance of Henri Matisse firsthand. With its vibrant colors, bold compositions, and innovative techniques, "Master of Color: Henri Matisse" is sure to be a highlight of the Daejeon art scene.
