A general hospital and an autonomous private high school are planned for Songsan, Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, an area with a high concentration of manufacturing companies within the Bay Valley.
Governor Kim Tae-heum signed a win-win development agreement with Dangjin Mayor Oh Seong-hwan and Hyundai Steel CEO Seo Kang-hyun at the provincial government situation room on the 25th.
According to the agreement, Hyundai Steel will promote the establishment and attraction of a general hospital and an autonomous private high school within the residential complex of Songsan 2nd General Industrial Complex in Yugok-ri, Songsan-myeon, Dangjin-si, to improve living conditions and create a desirable urban environment.
The province and Dangjin City have agreed to provide administrative and financial support for this initiative.
The general hospital is expected to have 200 beds on a site of 14,370㎡.
The autonomous private high school will be established on a site of 13,075㎡, with consulting services to be conducted by next year.
To ensure the smooth implementation of this agreement, Dangjin City and Hyundai Steel have decided to appoint nine members and operate a consultative body.
The province expects that the establishment of the general hospital and autonomous private high school will lead to various benefits, including: △strengthening emergency medical care for industrial accident patients, etc., △resolving medical blind spots in the region, △improving the health of local residents and workers, △enhancing living conditions, △nurturing local talent, △strengthening regional competitiveness, and △revitalizing the Bay Valley and free economic zones.
Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "Since Hyundai Steel took root in 2004, Dangjin has transformed into Korea's third largest steel industry city and has grown into a self-sufficient city of 170,000 people." He added, "I understand this agreement is an extension of Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo of Hyundai Motor Group's promise in 2007 to 'establish a hospital and school in Dangjin'," expressing gratitude for Hyundai Steel's fulfillment of its social responsibility.
Governor Kim continued, "Dangjin has a high demand for medical and educational services due to its high birth rate and population influx, but the related infrastructure is severely lacking. If a general hospital and autonomous private high school are established through this opportunity, it will accelerate regional revitalization and the attraction of excellent talent by improving living conditions."
Governor Kim also added, "Hyundai Steel is not just a place that makes steel; it is a company that creates Dangjin's tomorrow. As they have paved the way for win-win cooperation with the region despite difficult management conditions, Chungcheongnam-do will also actively strive for the continuous development of the company."
