Cheonan, South Korea – Cheonan City has officially commenced construction on the Shinbu Happy Housing project, a major initiative aimed at providing affordable housing for young professionals and newlyweds. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on June 6th at the former site of the Dongnam-gu district court, marks a significant step forward in the city’s efforts to address the housing needs of its residents.
The project, funded in part by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, will see the construction of a 20-story apartment complex with 587 units. Additionally, a public parking lot capable of accommodating 140 vehicles will be built to serve the residents.
However, the road to this groundbreaking ceremony was not without its challenges. Initial construction began in February 2021 but was halted due to changes in the project plan and the subsequent withdrawal of the original construction company. Despite these setbacks, the project was revived in July following approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.
Cheonan City officials are optimistic that the completion of the Shinbu Happy Housing project will attract young people to the city and stimulate the local economy. Mayor Park Sang-don expressed his commitment to improving the city’s housing conditions and urged residents to support the project.
"We will continue to work hard to improve the quality of life for our residents," Mayor Park said. "We ask for the continued support and cooperation of our citizens as we move forward with this important project."
