Singapore - The 19th annual Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) commenced today at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, officially opened by Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Mulyani Pillay. Hosted by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), this year's event is expected to attract over 20,000 attendees from approximately 80 countries, solidifying Singapore's position as a leading global maritime hub.

SMW 2025 showcases an expanded EXPO@SMW, featuring nearly 200 exhibitors, including nine national pavilions, highlighting the latest advancements in maritime technology and services. A key highlight of the opening ceremony, attended by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister of State Mulyani, was the unveiling of the 'Maritime Digital Twin,' a cutting-edge simulation model developed jointly by the MPA and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech). This advanced platform utilizes real-time data to optimize port operations, enhance energy efficiency, and bolster safety and emergency response capabilities. Pilot testing of the Maritime Digital Twin is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.

In addition to the digital twin, the MPA announced the launch of 'MariOT,' the world's first industry-grade cyber-physical platform. Based at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), this testbed aims to foster the development of cybersecurity technologies and cultivate talent in the maritime sector. The inaugural training session will focus on assessing the industry's ability to respond to cyberattacks targeting vessel systems.

SMW 2025 will also facilitate enhanced collaboration between the MPA and eight classification societies, along with the signing of over ten partnership agreements. Furthermore, the MPA will conduct a cybersecurity exercise at the Maritime Crisis Action and Operations Centre (MCAOC), engaging more than 40 participants. These initiatives underscore Singapore's commitment to driving digital transformation and sustainability within the maritime industry.

Through SMW 2025, Singapore continues to assert its leadership in maritime technological innovation and international cooperation, fostering a dynamic platform for industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge, forge partnerships, and shape the future of the global maritime landscape.
