DAEJEON, South Korea – Chungnam Province has embarked on an ambitious journey to establish itself as a leader in the burgeoning future air mobility (FAM) industry. The province recently held a kickoff meeting to initiate a comprehensive master plan for the development of an air mobility cluster in the Cheonsuman B District.
The 10-year master plan, spanning from 2026 to 2035, aims to transform the Cheonsuman B District, an area known for its reclaimed land, into a cutting-edge hub for advanced aviation. The region is already gaining traction with the ongoing "Green UAM-AAV Core Parts Test Evaluation Infrastructure Construction Project" and the selection of Taean Enterprise City as the site for the Agency for Defense Development's unmanned aerial vehicle research and development runway.
"The key to revitalizing our regional economy lies in attracting private sector investment," said Vice Governor Jeon Hyung-sik during the meeting. "We are committed to understanding the needs of businesses and creating the necessary infrastructure and regulatory environment to support their growth."
The master plan, spearheaded by the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements, will encompass a wide range of initiatives, including:
Analyzing domestic and international air mobility clusters to identify best practices
Forecasting regional demand to determine optimal facility scale
Developing a phased development plan with detailed cost estimates
Identifying target industries and fostering collaboration between regions
Chungnam Province envisions a collaborative approach, working closely with Seosan City and Taean County to ensure the successful implementation of the master plan. The province also aims to leverage its strategic location and existing infrastructure to attract leading companies and research institutions in the FAM sector.
The development of the Cheonsuman B District as an air mobility hub is expected to create numerous economic opportunities and solidify Chungnam Province's position as a key player in the future of aviation.
