Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam – Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated domestic passenger terminal, T3, on April 30, 2025, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. This landmark event underscores Vietnam’s commitment to enhancing its aviation infrastructure to meet the demands of its rapidly growing economy and tourism sector.
The $431.2 million USD (VND 11 trillion) project, under construction since December 2022, is poised to significantly alleviate congestion at Vietnam’s busiest airport. According to the Ministry of Transport (MT) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Terminal T3 will boost domestic flight capacity and improve passenger experience.
Designed to handle 20 million passengers annually, the state-of-the-art terminal features modern facilities, a multi-story parking structure, an elevated road system, and expanded aircraft aprons. Trial operations will precede the official opening to ensure seamless functionality and staff preparedness.
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air will be the first airlines to operate from Terminal T3, while other domestic carriers will continue to use Terminal T1 initially. The transition will take place after the peak holiday period of April 30 – May 1, to minimize disruption.
The need for Terminal T3 stems from the airport’s current passenger volume, which has surged to nearly 40 million annually, far exceeding its designed capacity of 25 million. The new terminal aims to improve passenger flow, reduce wait times, and enhance connectivity between major cities, supporting Vietnam’s burgeoning tourism and economic growth.
The government emphasizes that aviation infrastructure development is a cornerstone of Vietnam’s long-term economic strategy. Ongoing projects, such as the Long Thanh International Airport, highlight this commitment.
Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and the Ministry of Transport continue to drive large-scale airport developments to meet rising demand. The inauguration of Terminal T3 represents a significant step in modernizing Vietnam’s aviation sector, ensuring a more efficient and comfortable travel experience for millions of passengers.
