Murcia Region Hosts Austrian and Slovenian Journalists to Boost Tourism

Murcia, Spain – In a strategic move to enhance its international tourism presence, the Region of Murcia has welcomed a group of prominent journalists from Austria and Slovenia for an immersive familiarization trip. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports, in collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office in Vienna and Klagenfurt Airport, this initiative aims to spotlight the region's diverse attractions to a vast European audience.
The familiarization trip is designed to generate significant media coverage in Austria and Slovenia, targeting a potential audience of over 3 million readers through leading print and online publications. The carefully curated itinerary showcases the breadth of Murcia's offerings, from the coastal beauty of Cabo de Palos to the natural splendor of Calblanque and Sierra Espuña regional parks. The journalists will also explore the rich cultural heritage of Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Caravaca de la Cruz, and Bullas, experiencing firsthand the region's historical landmarks and vibrant local culture.
This initiative is a key component of the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia's international promotion efforts, as outlined in the 2022-2032 Strategic Tourism Plan. The plan emphasizes the importance of tapping into foreign markets with strong growth potential and aligning with evolving tourist preferences. By hosting these journalists, the region aims to solidify its position as a premier tourist destination in Europe.
The Region of Murcia has shown a strong dedication to the international promotion of tourism. In 2023, the community carried out 85 tourism promotion actions in 18 foriegn countries. This is an increase of over 20 percent from the amount of actions taken in 2022.
Juan Francisco Martínez, director general of the Institute of Tourism, joined the journalists during their visit to Lorca, underscoring the region's commitment to showcasing its unique appeal. The visit is expected to result in extensive media coverage, boosting Murcia's visibility and attracting a greater number of tourists from Austria and Slovenia.
