Singer Kim Heung-kook has announced his return to his main profession, singing, leaving behind his tumultuous political path. Anticipating a modern reinterpretation of his hit song 'Tiger Swallowtail' (Horangnabi), he emphasized "severance from politics" and "returning to his roots" with the words, "From now on, I will only stand by the public through song and entertainment," and "Politics was not my path." While his will for a 'second chapter of life' is firm, the public's gaze is not entirely welcoming. The mountain he must climb is not the success of his new song, but the massive wall of public trust that he himself has damaged.

Damaged Consensus, The Shallowness of the 'Political Severance' Declaration

The image of 'entertainer Kim Heung-kook,' who was once nationally loved for his many hit songs and distinctive wit, has been severely damaged by his extreme right-wing remarks and political bias shown in recent years. His actions, which placed him at the center of political controversy for a time due to his public support for President Yoon Suk Yeol and participation in conservative rallies, caused deep fatigue and disappointment among the public. His past behavior, which failed to encompass all citizens and instead served as a mouthpiece for a specific political faction, fundamentally destroyed the public's goodwill and trust, which are the lifeblood of an entertainer.

Now, as he cries out, "Politics is over, back to song," and speaks of 'laughter and hope,' the public inevitably questions whether his 'return to roots' stems from genuine self-reflection or a political calculation. If the 'political severance' declaration amounts to no more than a mere rhetoric for resuming activities, his comeback will face difficulties from the start.

The Public's Question Regarding 'Character' and 'Sincerity'

The public will look first not at his singing and stage technique, but at his 'character' and 'sincerity'. As heavy as the promise in his return declaration to provide 'laughter and hope' to the nation as an entertainer and popular singer, a sincere self-examination and apology for the narrow-minded and controversial remarks he has shown should have preceded it.

Unless he is willing to undergo the arduous process of recovering the 'consensus' with the public, his return will be nothing more than a meaningless flutter with only the shell remaining. The public has not completely forgotten his past, and the question they pose to him is clear:

Does the 'by the public' you speak of include those who were hurt by your critical remarks?

The answer to this question will be the true measure of success for his 'second chapter of life.' If his promise to shed his political colors and return as a genuine entertainer is not to be in vain, he must start by restoring broken trust before rekindling the excitement of a new song. A return announcement without sincerity will only increase public fatigue.
