Province, Taean-gun, and Taean Fire Station Conduct Realistic Drills, Strengthening Inter-Agency Cooperation

TAEAN, South Korea - Chungnam Province announced today that it conducted the "2025 Disaster Preparedness Safe Chungnam Drill" on June 19th at Seongnakwon in Nam-myeon, Taean-gun. This comprehensive disaster response exercise, held in conjunction with Taean-gun and the Taean Fire Station, aimed to establish a robust integrated disaster response system.

The drill saw the participation of approximately 220 personnel from 14 agencies and organizations, including the primary organizing bodies, the Chungnam 119 Special Rescue Team, Taean Police Station, Unit 1789, KEPCO, KT, and the Taean Thermal Power Plant.

The scenario for the drill simulated a complex disaster: a wildfire ignited by sparks from a camper's open flame, fanned by sea winds, leading to a subsequent fire and collapse within Seongnakwon, a training facility. Over 30 pieces of response equipment were mobilized for the exercise.

 
Shifting from Theatrical to Realistic Training

Participants moved away from typical, staged drills, opting for a more authentic approach without pre-written scripts, narrators, or waiting vehicles. The training encompassed various critical phases:

Initial Response: Focusing on immediate actions to contain the simulated disaster.
Establishment and Operation of the Emergency Rescue Control Headquarters: Practicing the command and control structure essential for coordinating large-scale rescue efforts.
Operation of Field Emergency Medical Stations: Setting up and managing on-site medical facilities to provide immediate aid to casualties.
Recovery and Restoration Training by the Integrated Support Headquarters: Simulating the post-disaster phase, including resource allocation and long-term recovery strategies.
This realistic approach significantly enhanced the cooperation among disaster management agencies and improved their practical response capabilities.

 
Leveraging Advanced Communication Systems

Furthermore, the drill actively utilized the Disaster Safety Communication Network (PS-LTE), the primary communication tool for emergencies. This allowed for a thorough review of disaster scene information dissemination and reporting systems, ensuring seamless communication during critical moments.

 
Future Drills and Continued Preparedness

Looking ahead, Chungnam Province plans another comprehensive drill in October, to be held in Asan-si. This upcoming exercise will simulate a complex disaster scenario involving a large-scale fire in a densely populated facility and a hazardous material leak, further testing the region's preparedness for diverse emergencies.

The province anticipates that this "Safe Chungnam" drill will significantly strengthen its practical ability to respond effectively to various disasters. It is also expected to further solidify the close cooperative ties between local agencies and organizations, ultimately contributing to a safer and more resilient Chungnam Province, well-equipped to withstand future calamities.

Jeong Nak-do, the province's Safety Planning Officer, stated, "This 'Safe Chungnam' drill involved practical training for complex disaster situations, including initial wildfire suppression, building and vehicle fire extinguishment, and vital evacuation and rescue operations." He emphasized, "We will continue to conduct joint drills with relevant agencies for the safety of our residents and will continuously address and improve any shortcomings identified."
