Daejeon Metropolitan City announced its "2025 Electric Motorcycle Promotion Project" aimed at reducing urban air pollution and creating a cleaner atmospheric environment. The initiative will run from April 10th to December 12th, 2025.
The city aims to support the adoption of a total of 299 electric motorcycles this year. Applications will be accepted through dealerships of electric motorcycle manufacturers and importers until the allocated budget is exhausted. The distribution targets include 209 units for general use (70%), 60 units for delivery purposes (20%), and 30 units for priority groups (10%).
The subsidy amounts will be differentiated based on the electric motorcycle's size, type, and performance metrics such as fuel efficiency (in electric equivalent), battery capacity, and hill-climbing ability. The maximum subsidy amounts are as follows: light-duty (gyeonghyeong) up to KRW 1.4 million, small-duty (sohyeong) up to KRW 2.3 million, medium-duty (junghyeong) and other types up to KRW 2.7 million, and large-duty (daehyeong) up to KRW 3.0 million.
The number of vehicles eligible for purchase under the subsidy program is limited to one per individual, up to ten for corporations, and up to two for individual business owners.
Notably, the eligibility requirements have been eased starting this year. The minimum residency period in Daejeon has been reduced from 90 days to 30 days. Consequently, individuals, corporations, and public institutions that have been continuously residing in Daejeon for at least 30 days as of the application date are now eligible to apply.
Furthermore, additional subsidies are available for specific groups. Small business owners, vulnerable populations (individuals with disabilities or those in the lower income bracket), and farmers will receive an extra 20% of the national government's subsidy. For electric motorcycles used for delivery services, an additional 10% subsidy from both the national and city governments will be provided upon submission of a valid paid transportation insurance (including hourly plans) certificate for at least six months or a non-paid transportation insurance certificate for at least three months.
Subsidies will be disbursed on a first-come, first-served basis. Daejeon Metropolitan City will directly pay the subsidy to the electric motorcycle manufacturers or importers, and the buyer will only need to pay the remaining amount to the respective dealer.

Moon Chang-yong, Director of the Environment Bureau of Daejeon Metropolitan City, stated, "We hope that the promotion of electric motorcycles will contribute to improving Daejeon's air quality and fostering a sustainable transportation environment. We encourage the active interest and participation of our citizens."
