BUSAN — Busan’s signature nocturnal tourism initiative is successfully shifting its focal point from traditional urban centers to the western coastal and riverside districts, breathing fresh economic and cultural vitality into the region.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Government, the Saha-gu Office, and the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO) on September 8, the opening weekend of the "2026 Starry Sea Busan Night Music Camcnic" drew a remarkable 4,900 visitors to Dadaepo Beach Park on September 4–5. This strong turnout serves as a green light for the expansion of night tourism into Western Busan (Seobusan), a sector that has historically seen fewer tourism resources compared to its eastern counterpart (Dongbusan).

Fusing Pet-Friendly Wellness with Scenic Coastal Healing

Running through September 19 on every Friday and Saturday, the Night Music Camcnic combines the stunning sunset views of Dadaepo Beach with vibrant live music and a cozy camping atmosphere. To elevate the visitor experience, the event organizers partitioned the park’s three main plazas into distinct thematic zones: Zone 1 offered local culinary delights at the "Sunset Eat-cnic," Zone 2 hosted live musical performances at the "Night Music Camcnic," and Zone 3 catered to pet owners with the "Play Mong-cnic" pet-friendly wellness space. 

The incorporation of pet-friendly wellness content reflects a broader travel trend focusing on sustainable, inclusive urban relaxation. Building on this momentum, upcoming sessions will feature eco-conscious wellness programs such as slow jogging and "Mong-ness" therapy, designed to harmonize visitors with Dadaepo's natural coastal ecosystem.

From Yongdusan to Western Busan: A Blueprint for Balanced Growth

Launched in 2022, the "Starry Sea Busan" project was originally conceived to alleviate tourism concentration in East Busan—such as Haeundae and Gwangalli—while revitalizing declining commercial districts in the historic old downtown.

In its initial years, the festival concentrated heavily on Yongdusan Park, utilizing media art, pop-up events, and night parades to recapture public interest. These targeted efforts transformed Gwangbok-ro into a thriving nocturnal hub where international tourists and the MZ generation now flock to enjoy traditional markets, street food, and outdoor yajang (night market) culture.

Buressed by this success, the 2026 edition has deliberately expanded its footprint to Western Busan venues, including Hwamyeong Eco Park and Dadaepo Beach Park. By capitalizing on the natural waterfront landscapes of the Nakdonggang River and the western coast, the city aims to diversify regional travel demand and foster balanced urban development. Over the past two years alone, cumulative attendance at Western Busan night programs—such as the Dadaepo Camcnic and Hwamyeong Eco Park's Night Market—has surpassed 190,000 visitors, shattering preconceptions about the region's tourism potential. 

A Jam-Packed September Lineup

The excitement continues throughout September as part of the broader "2026 Starry Sea Busan Night Festa". In the historic old downtown, Gwangbok-ro will host the "Balcony Music Show and Street Festa" on September 12 and September 26, featuring dynamic busking and interactive cultural experiences. Meanwhile, the lotus complex at Hwamyeong Eco Park will launch the "Starry Sea Busan Night Market" on September 26, blending river views with local craft beers, food trucks, and flea markets.

Busan Tourism Organization President Lee Jung-sil emphasized the strategic importance of these initiatives. "The Starry Sea Busan Night Festa is more than just an evening entertainment program; it is a vital urban regeneration and balanced development strategy that uncovers hidden gems across our old downtown and Western Busan," President Lee noted. "Building on our achievements in Yongdusan, we will continue to maximize Western Busan's natural assets to establish the city as a globally competitive nocturnal destination."
