GURI, South Korea — Police have officially cleared Nana (Im Jin-ah), an actress and former member of the girl group After School, following a legal battle initiated by the man who broke into her home. On January 16, the Guri Police Station announced a "no-forwarding" (non-indictment) decision, concluding that her actions constituted justifiable self-defense.

The Incident: A Violent Intrusion
The case dates back to November 15 of last year. At approximately 6:00 AM, a man in his 30s, identified as "A," used a ladder to scale the balcony of Nana’s residence in Acheon-dong, Guri. Finding an unlocked door, he entered the home armed with a weapon.

According to police reports, "A" first encountered Nana’s mother and began physically assaulting her, including strangling her. Nana, awakened by her mother’s screams, rushed to intervene. In the ensuing struggle to protect her mother and herself, the intruder sustained a laceration to his chin from a sharp object.

The "Counter-Lawsuit" Strategy
The intruder, "A," was arrested and sent to the prosecution for robbery and assault. However, while detained in December, he filed a counter-complaint against Nana from within the detention center. He alleged that Nana should be charged with attempted murder and special injury, claiming he was the victim of her physical retaliation.

Per standard legal procedure in South Korea, once a formal complaint is filed, police are required to book the individual (in this case, Nana) as a suspect to investigate the validity of the claims.

Police Verdict: Justifiable Self-Defense
After a thorough investigation, including a formal statement from Nana on January 8, the Guri Police Station finalized their decision.

"We have reviewed the circumstances of the event and the supporting evidence," a police official stated. "Nana’s actions were a direct response to a life-threatening situation involving her mother and herself. We have determined this to be a clear case of justifiable self-defense."
Legal experts note that while counter-lawsuits by criminals are a known tactic to complicate proceedings, the severity of "A’s" initial crime—breaking into a home with a weapon and assaulting a family—made the self-defense ruling straightforward.

Current Status
With the police closing the investigation, Nana has been cleared of all criminal suspicion. Meanwhile, "A" remains in custody and faces heavy sentencing for robbery, home invasion, and multiple counts of aggravated assault.
