Daejeon, South Korea - The Daejeon Metropolitan City has completed a comprehensive renovation of its emergency shelter for homeless women, creating a safer and more comfortable environment through a commendable public-private partnership.

The dedicated space for women at the Homeless Temporary Shelter on the 3rd floor (224 Seonhwa-ro, Dong-gu) had been facing challenges due to a deteriorating environment, including loose flooring and rainwater stains on the walls. The need for improvements, such as replacing damaged interior doors, had been consistently raised.

This much-needed renovation was made possible through the generous contribution of "Parangsae Architecture," a local self-sufficiency company that readily accepted the Daejeon City's request as part of its social contribution activities. Parangsae Architecture fully funded the project, amounting to four million KRW, and provided the construction services free of charge.

The renovation focused on key improvements to create a healthier and more welcoming space. These included the installation of eco-friendly wallpaper to prevent mold and harmful substances, the replacement of flooring with a more stable material, the installation of moisture-resistant ABS interior doors, and the upgrade to energy-efficient LED lighting. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the well-being and comfort of the women utilizing the shelter.

The renovation project was spearheaded by Park Ok-soon, CEO of Parangsae Architecture. Ms. Park established Parangsae Architecture as a self-sufficiency business in 2012 and has since grown it into a small enterprise with an annual revenue of 900 million KRW, actively participating in housing repair projects for vulnerable residents in the Dong-gu district. For several years, Ms. Park has also been consistently involved in philanthropic activities, supporting low-income children and individuals with disabilities through organizations such as ChildFund Korea and World Vision.

Reflecting on her journey and contribution, Ms. Park stated, "I was able to reach where I am today by having hope for the future through the self-sufficiency program. I hope to continue contributing my small acts of love to neighbors in need."

In response to this impactful collaboration, Kim Jong-min, Director-General of Welfare for Daejeon City, expressed his gratitude, saying, "We extend our sincere appreciation to Parangsae Architecture for their warmhearted contribution to homeless women. We anticipate that this transformation of a previously inadequate shelter into a pleasant environment will greatly contribute to the welfare and convenience of the women who rely on this facility."
