Held on Sept. 29 at 14:00 at the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center… Designed to share regional outcomes of the "Seafood Enterprise Leap Support Project" and spread best practices.
Busan City (Mayor Jeon Jae-soo) announced that it will host the 「Blue Food Value-Up Day」 tomorrow (the 29th) at 2:00 PM in Event Hall (D) of the Busan Port International Exhibition and Convention Center to share the innovative achievements of seafood companies and spread regional best practices.
The event is expected to be attended by about 100 participants, including officials from Busan City, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Gyeonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province, and South Gyeongsang Province, as well as seafood enterprises, academia, related organizations, associations, and experts. It is hosted by the city, organized by the Busan Technopark, and sponsored by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
This event was prepared to share the regional outcomes of the "Seafood Enterprise Leap Support Project" and disseminate successful case studies of participating companies in Busan and other regions. The "Seafood Enterprise Leap Support Project" is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2024 to support the business model transformation and competitiveness enhancement of seafood enterprises with growth potential. Six major metropolitan local governments nationwide, including Busan, are participating.
The event will proceed in the order of an opening ceremony, an expert keynote lecture, a presentation on the comprehensive performance of the Busan region's seafood enterprise leap support project, a tour of blue food exhibition products and networking, and presentations on outstanding enterprise achievements. During the keynote lecture, Lee Ki-won, Chairman of the World Foodtech Council, will share the latest trends and future development directions of blue food tech under the theme "Busan × Blue Food Tech × Culture Platform." Following this, Nam Byung-hyuk, Director of the Busan Technopark Blue Food Center, will present the comprehensive achievements of Busan's 「Seafood Enterprise Leap Support Project」, introducing cases where government and local government corporate support—such as product development, technological advancement, and commercialization—actually translated into corporate growth.
In the outstanding enterprise achievement presentations on this day, five participating companies from Busan, Gyeonggi, South Chungcheong, and South Gyeongsang will directly introduce their corporate growth cases through participation in the project, including product development and branding. From Busan, Cheongsane Foods Co., Ltd. will present its development of high-value-added organic laver snacks utilizing organic grain materials, and Myungseong Foods will present its development of gluten-free powdered rice-based fish snacks, respectively. In addition, cases will be introduced including Gyeonggi-based Buil Co., Ltd.’s branding for "Everyone's Wise Choice, Mohyeon Sanghoe," South Chungcheong-based Taekyung Foods' development of laver-based snack products, and South Gyeongsang-based WC Seafood’s development of "Tongyeong Hae (Sea) Soup" utilizing Tongyeong fish and shellfish. The city expects this event to serve as an opportunity to share enterprise support achievements and field experiences accumulated across regions, and to spread best practices to other regions and companies.
Through the 「Seafood Enterprise Leap Support Project」, the city has supported corporate growth such as new product development, technological advancement, and commercialization for local seafood enterprises. To date, a total of 3.3 billion KRW in national and municipal budgets has been injected to provide customized support per enterprise—covering new product development, technological advancement, branding, and promotions—for 26 local seafood companies. Through this, achievements have been reaped during 2024–2025, including the development of 26 new products, securing 14 technological capabilities, and creating new jobs. In particular, by linking companies with merchandise planners from major domestic distribution companies from the early stages of the project to support customized product development and market expansion, a new sales revenue of 4 billion KRW was achieved, laying the groundwork for participating companies to grow from "startups" into "small-giant enterprises."
Sim Jae-min, Director of the Maritime Capital Strategy Bureau of the City, stated, "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity for local governments and companies nationwide to share Busan's achievements together and create new cooperation and business opportunities," adding, "We will continue to actively cooperate with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries so that Busan's seafood enterprises can continuously grow from technology development to commercialization, market pioneering, and exports."
