Nonsan – Chungcheongnam-do Province and the Chungnam Defense Venture Center are joining forces to expand support for defense companies within the province and to build a K-defense innovation ecosystem aimed at strengthening global competitiveness. This collaboration is expected to solidify Chungnam's position as a true 'defense capital.'
On the 9th, Chungnam Province held the 'Chungnam Defense Venture Center Defense Company Agreement Ceremony and Roundtable' at Konyang University in Nonsan. The event was attended by Jeon Hyung-sik, Vice Governor for Political Affairs of Chungnam Province, along with Choi Im-soo, Vice President of Konyang University, Jeong Young-jin, Department Head at the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, Lieutenant Colonel Koo Jae-hong from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), Kim Young-gwan, Vice Mayor of Nonsan, and representatives from various defense companies. All participants reaffirmed their strong commitment to fostering the development of the defense industry and nurturing defense companies.
The event proceeded in the order of ▲company introductions ▲agreement signing ▲explanation of government defense industry policies ▲roundtable discussion, where attendees from each institution engaged in extensive discussions on the growth and strengthening of K-defense competitiveness.
A key aspect of this agreement is the expansion of the number of companies partnered with the Chungnam Defense Venture Center from 65 to 83. This will enable more defense companies in the province to receive support from the center, further enhancing their capabilities and bolstering the defense industry. Specifically, through close cooperation with relevant organizations such as DAPA and the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality, systematic support will be provided to facilitate the growth of defense companies, enabling them to become key players in the global defense market through technology development and market expansion.
During the roundtable, participating companies showed great interest in the government's support policies for defense companies and exchanged in-depth opinions on various matters, including corporate challenges, suggestions for institutional improvements, and collaborative strategies.
Vice Governor Jeon Hyung-sik emphasized, "We will spare no effort in supporting defense companies in the province to further grow and play a pivotal role in K-defense," adding, "We will continue to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional defense industry through close cooperation with defense-related institutions and local governments."
This collaboration between Chungnam Province and the Chungnam Defense Venture Center is expected to be a significant turning point in enhancing the global competitiveness of K-defense and establishing Chungnam as a leading hub for South Korea's defense industry.
