Toulouse, France - A distressing incident of racial abuse against a South Korean internet streamer has ignited widespread condemnation in France. Jinnytty, a popular Twitch streamer with over a million subscribers, was subjected to vile racist insults and threats while live-streaming on the streets of Toulouse, a city in southern France, on May 7th.

According to local French media outlets, including 3 Occitanie and BFM TV, Jinnytty was unexpectedly targeted by a white man as she traveled on a kick scooter during her broadcast. The man accosted her, shouting, "What are you filming? Dirty Chinese woman. Get out of here, you dirty whore (Qu'est-ce que tu filmes? Sale Chinoise. Dégage, sale pute)." He then reportedly struck the camera Jinnytty was using, causing it to fall, before leaving the scene.

Visibly shaken by the unprovoked hate crime, Jinnytty expressed her shock to her live audience, asking, "What just happened?" She clarified, "He wasn't a thief. He was just a crazy man. I was just filming my face, and I wasn't even filming him. This is a public place."

Despite urging from her viewers to report the incident to the police immediately, Jinnytty expressed reluctance, stating, "I don't think I'll get proper help even if I report it to the police." This response likely stems from past negative experiences abroad where language barriers and cultural differences hindered her ability to receive adequate assistance.

However, Jinnytty's hesitation has not stopped the online community from taking action. The Toulouse city authorities were quick to address the incident. Émilion Esnault, the Deputy Mayor of Toulouse, issued an official statement expressing his full support for Jinnytty, who he said was subjected to "unacceptable behavior." He further asserted, "We must eradicate such injustices."

Nevertheless, concerns linger locally regarding the ability of law enforcement to identify and prosecute the man responsible.
