GWACHEON — Hwang Hana (37), the granddaughter of Namyang Dairy Products' founder, has been arrested following a period of overseas flight to avoid drug-related investigations.

The Gwacheon Police Station announced on the 24th that Hwang is currently under investigation for violating the Narcotics Control Act. According to authorities, Hwang arrived at Incheon International Airport at approximately 7:50 AM today. Police executed an arrest warrant immediately upon her arrival and transported her to the station for questioning.

Illegal Entry into Cambodia and Voluntary Return Hwang is accused of administering methamphetamine with two associates in the Gangnam district of Seoul in 2023. Shortly after the investigation commenced, she fled to Southeast Asia and was later discovered to have entered Cambodia illegally, where she remained in hiding.

While police had issued an Interpol Blue Notice to track her whereabouts, the situation changed when Hwang recently expressed her intent to surrender voluntarily through her legal counsel. Coordinating with local consular officials in Cambodia, Korean police took custody of Hwang and executed the arrest warrant aboard a Korean national carrier.

A History of Drug Offenses This is not Hwang’s first encounter with the law regarding drug use. In 2015, she was indicted for methamphetamine use and received a suspended sentence in 2019. However, she was later sentenced to 20 months in prison after being caught using drugs again while on probation.

Notably, her latest charges emerged during the broader drug investigation involving the late actor Lee Sun-kyun. Her sudden departure from the country at that time led to public criticism that she was evading justice. Police plan to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her drug use, potential accomplices during her flight, and additional crimes before deciding whether to request a formal detention warrant.
