Spanish golfer Jon Rahm has concluded the inaugural LIV Golf season on a high note, securing both the individual championship and a significant cash prize. Rahm claimed victory at the LIV Golf Chicago event with a final-round 66, finishing four strokes ahead of his nearest competitors.
With this win, Rahm earned a $4 million prize for the tournament and an additional $18 million as the season-long champion, bringing his total earnings for the event to a staggering $22 million. The victory at the Bowling Brook Golf Club was hard-fought, as Rahm narrowly missed short birdie putts on the back nine, giving his rivals, Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia, a brief glimmer of hope. However, a crucial 12-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole sealed his victory.
This marks Rahm's second LIV Golf victory this season, having previously triumphed at the event in England. Throughout the season, Rahm has consistently delivered top-10 finishes, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication. Despite withdrawing from the Houston event due to a foot injury and missing the U.S. Open, Rahm has had a nearly flawless season.
"To finish the weekend bogey-free is pretty incredible," Rahm said after his victory. "That 17th hole putt made 18 a lot easier. I'm really proud of that putt."
Rahm’s total earnings for the 2024 LIV Golf season have now surpassed $34.75 million. Having signed a reported nine-figure deal with LIV Golf last December, Rahm has more than justified his hefty contract with his stellar performances.
His success has silenced critics who questioned his decision to join the upstart league. After facing criticism for his performance in major championships and a lack of wins on the PGA Tour, Rahm has silenced his doubters with a strong finish to the LIV Golf season.
Looking ahead, Rahm will compete in the LIV Golf Team Championship in Dallas this week. With the impending birth of his third child and upcoming commitments to the Spanish Open and the DP World Tour, Rahm has a busy schedule. He is also determined to maintain his place on the European Ryder Cup team and will need to make three more appearances on the DP World Tour to secure his spot.
