Cheonan-si, Bongmyeong-dong – On April 2nd, the Bongmyeong-dong Haengbok Kium Support Group (Director Shim Young-seop) brought warmth and cheer to a low-income, elderly resident living alone by delivering a special birthday meal.
This heartwarming initiative is a monthly endeavor by the Haengbok Kium Support Group, made possible through the generous support of the Tongjang (neighborhood chief) Council and the Paris Baguette branch located at Cheonan Soonchunhyang University Hospital. Volunteers from the support group personally visit the homes of these often-forgotten seniors, delivering not only delicious food and a celebratory cake but also taking the time to check on their well-being.
The elderly recipient of the birthday surprise expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, "I felt a bit shy receiving a birthday meal at my age, but now that I have it, I am truly happy. I want to cherish this joy for a long time."
Shim Young-seop, Director of the Haengbok Kium Support Group, shared his sentiments, stating, "Seeing the joy on the senior's face warms our hearts as well. We will continue to pay close attention to our neighbors and carry on our sharing activities."
Park Yong-dong, the head of Bongmyeong-dong, expressed his appreciation for the group's efforts. "We are grateful to the Haengbok Kium Support Group for their dedication to improving the welfare of our community. We will do our best to ensure that warm helping hands reach every corner of Bongmyeong-dong."
This act of kindness highlights the strong community spirit within Bongmyeong-dong and the dedication of local organizations to support their vulnerable residents. The monthly birthday celebrations serve as a vital reminder to these isolated seniors that they are valued and cared for, fostering a greater sense of belonging and well-being within the neighborhood. The ongoing collaboration between the Haengbok Kium Support Group, the Tongjang Council, and local businesses like Paris Baguette sets a commendable example of how community partnerships can create meaningful impact in the lives of individuals.
