Asunción, Paraguay – Bolivian tennis stars Federico Zeballos and Boris Arias return to the court to defend their Paraguay Open championship title. Fresh from their victory last year, they will play their first match this week against Ecuador's Álvaro Guillén and Argentina's Guido Justo.
The Bolivian Tennis Federation stated in a press release, "This professional tournament in Asunción is a relatively new competition, marking its second year." In the inaugural tournament last year, Zeballos and Arias made their mark in Bolivian tennis history by winning the doubles title, while Brazil's Gustavo Heide won the singles.
The Bolivian duo, who entered the ATP top 100 rankings last year, lifted the trophy after defeating Peru's Gonzalo Bueno and Guillén 6-2, 6-2 in the final. The match lasted only 57 minutes.
"Title Defense"
Currently the second seed in the tournament, Zeballos and Arias have already arrived in Paraguay and given interviews to the tournament organizers. Arias said, "We are here to defend the title we won last year with Fede. It feels like home." Zeballos added, "I'm happy to be back in Asunción. They treat us very well, like home, so we look forward to defending the title. We hope many people come to watch good tennis."
Their first match is scheduled for Tuesday local time on the courts of the International Tennis Club. The exact time has not yet been determined.
