First, the meeting discussed crime prevention measures in preparation for the increase in visitors to West Coast beaches during the summer vacation season.

With the number of visitors projected to increase from 7.96 million in 2023 to 8.21 million in 2024, the Committee decided to implement proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents and a peaceful vacation for tourists visiting during "Visit Chungnam Year."

During the opening period of major beaches in the province, a joint inspection team comprising local governments and Crime Prevention Officers (CPOs) will be formed to inspect crime-vulnerable facilities such as public restrooms, public showers, and parking lots at beaches. A dedicated sexual crime team will also be organized to establish a rapid response system.

Furthermore, community policing activities will be promoted, including joint patrols with voluntary crime prevention units, merchant associations, and local governments in crowded areas. Information booklets and promotional materials containing tips for preventing car break-ins and beach safety rules will be produced and distributed to tourists.

 
Traffic Safety Measures for Natural Disasters

The Committee also approved traffic safety measures in preparation for summer natural disasters such as torrential downpours and typhoons.

As the frequency of torrential downpours has increased recently, safety inspections will be strengthened for vulnerable sections of roads, including those prone to flooding. A "traffic emergency response system" will be established based on weather advisories.

Patrols in vulnerable areas will be intensified by maximizing available personnel and equipment. From June to July, a comprehensive overhaul of traffic safety facilities, such as traffic lights and safety signs, will be carried out, prioritizing inspections of locations where visibility of road markings may be reduced during nighttime rain.

 
Preventing and Supporting Sexual Violence and Abuse Against Persons with Disabilities
In addition, the Committee deliberated on measures to prevent, protect, and support persons with disabilities against sexual violence and abuse.

In 2023, there were 187 reported cases of sexual violence and abuse in residential facilities for persons with disabilities nationwide. The Committee agreed on the need for preventive measures to protect residents in the province's facilities.

Throughout June, a joint inspection team from the Provincial Police Agency, 15 police stations, and city/county offices will visit facilities for persons with disabilities. They will identify instances of harm and vulnerable factors through expert surveys and interviews.

If harm is confirmed, cases will be handed over to the Provincial Police Agency's Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit, and victims will be protected and supported in cooperation with disability protection agencies.
