MIAMI – Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club featuring 'football god' Lionel Messi, has made history by winning the MLS Cup Playoff (PO) Eastern Conference final for the first time since their inception, securing a spot in the grand finale.

On Saturday (KST), Inter Miami delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over New York City FC at Chase Stadium in Miami, Florida, largely powered by a stunning hat-trick from forward Facundo Farías.

Having only joined the MLS in 2020, this victory marks Inter Miami’s maiden MLS PO Eastern Conference title, a significant milestone for the rapidly growing club.

Inter Miami now advances to the MLS Cup Final on December 7, where they will host the winner of the Western Conference final between San Diego FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps at their home ground, Chase Stadium, to compete for the season’s top honor.

Farías Steals the Show Amidst Messi's Draw

With New York City FC focusing much of their defensive efforts on neutralizing Lionel Messi, it was fellow Argentine forward Facundo Farías (not Tadeo Allende, as originally reported) who stepped up as the decisive playmaker.

Farías opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a powerful right-footed shot from the right side of the penalty area. He doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, heading in a precise cross from veteran defender Jordi Alba.

Miami's comfortable lead was briefly challenged in the 37th minute when NYCFC's Justin Haak scored with a header, narrowing the gap to 2-1 before halftime.

Messi Delivers Crucial Assist to Restore Control

As the second half progressed, Messi once again demonstrated his ability to influence the game even without scoring. In the 67th minute (22nd minute of the second half), Messi registered a crucial assist for Mateo Silvetti's goal, extending the lead back to a comfortable two-goal margin.

This assist followed Messi's impressive performance in the Eastern Conference Semifinal against Cincinnati on November 24 (a 4-0 win), where he tallied 1 goal and 3 assists, becoming the first player in football history to reach 1,300 total career goal contributions.

With control restored, Inter Miami continued their offensive push. In the 83rd minute (38th minute of the second half), Telasco Segovia put the victory further out of reach. After passing the ball to Alba on a counter-attack, Segovia received a sensational backheel return pass and calmly finished with his right foot.

Farías then capped off his sensational performance in the 89th minute (44th minute of the second half), completing his hat-trick by connecting with a through ball from Yannick Bright, sealing the dominant 5-1 victory and Inter Miami’s ticket to the MLS Cup Final.
