Samcheok City announced that it will conduct an intensive crackdown on illegal activities in forests from July 1st to August 31st, anticipating an increase in visitors to mountain valleys during the summer vacation season.
The crackdown will be carried out by six teams divided into nine zones across various towns and districts. For areas where national and private forests are contiguous, joint crackdowns will be conducted with the Samcheok National Forest Office and the Taebaek National Forest Office. Furthermore, drones will be actively utilized to enhance the efficiency of monitoring wide areas.
The primary targets of the crackdown include illegal conversion, unauthorized occupation and damage within forest protection areas and forest purification protection areas, illegal dumping of trash and waste, and acts such as cooking, smoking, and incineration.
The city plans to actively engage in public awareness campaigns, including posting 현수막 (banners) and posters in areas prone to illegal activities and distributing promotional materials within forest recreation facilities. Subsequently, any violations discovered will be subject to strict measures, such as imposition of fines and judicial processing, in accordance with relevant laws like the "Forest Protection Act."
A city official stated, "We will increase the effectiveness of the crackdown to establish a healthy forest recreation culture and minimize forest damage caused by illegal activities." He added, "We ask for the voluntary cooperation of citizens to ensure that our precious forest resources are not damaged."
