In a delightful initiative commemorating the '2025-2026 Visit Chungnam Year,' Korea Rail Tourism Development, in collaboration with Chungcheongnam-do Province, the Chungnam Culture & Tourism Foundation, the Korea Tourism Organization, and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, has launched a unique themed train tour package: the 'Chungnam Retro Romance Train.' Commencing its operations this month, this special train offers a nostalgic journey back to the 1970s and 1980s, providing a wealth of retro-themed entertainment and a comfortable day trip to explore the scenic attractions of Chungnam Province.
The 'Chungnam Retro Romance Train' promises a distinctive experience akin to stepping back in time, characterized by its rich array of onboard retro programs. Live performances of acoustic guitar and the melodious strains of an accordion will enhance the romantic ambiance of the journey. Passengers will have the opportunity to don vintage school uniforms for memorable photo sessions and capture analog sentiments using provided black and white cameras.
Adding to the nostalgic charm, passengers will be treated to a classic lunchbox reminiscent of bygone eras, accompanied by beloved snacks such as banana milk and roasted eggs. To ensure an engaging journey, the train will also feature entertaining lucky draw games and surprise prize events.
The inaugural journey departs from Seoul Station today, April 23rd (Wednesday), making stops at Yeongdeungpo, Suwon, Pyeongtaek, and Cheonan before heading towards six key regions of Chungnam: Yesan, Seosan, Hongseong, Taean, Boryeong, and Seocheon. From May onwards, Asan will be added to the itinerary, expanding the service to a total of seven destinations. Upon arrival at each location, travelers will visit prominent tourist sites showcasing the diverse appeal of Chungnam, including the picturesque Cheollipo Arboretum, the unique coastal dunes of Sinduri Beach, the exhilarating Yedangho Suspension Bridge, the serene and beautiful Gaesimsa Temple, the well-preserved Joseon Dynasty Haemieupseong Fortress, and the idyllic botanical garden of Jukdo Sanghwarwon.
The 'Chungnam Retro Romance Train' is scheduled to operate a total of eight times between April and the end of November. The confirmed departure dates to date are April 23rd (Wednesday), May 17th (Saturday), May 30th (Friday), and June 14th (Saturday). The tour package is priced between 79,000 and 89,000 Korean Won per person, a comprehensive fee that includes round-trip train tickets, connecting transportation, entrance fees to tourist sites, activity fees, and meals, offering an affordable way to experience the charm of Chungnam. Notably, the journey utilizes the Paldo Jangteo Tourist Train, and each participant will receive a 10,000 Korean Won Onnuri gift certificate to be used at traditional markets, contributing to local economic revitalization.
