INCHEON – Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, has announced it will hold a lighting ceremony for the 'Gyeyang Araon Artway' on September 19th, completing a significant urban revitalization project that transforms a once-troubled area into a new cultural landmark. The event, held at the Araon Waterfront Cafe Plaza, will link the first two phases of the 'Street of Light' project via the Gyeyang Bridge, establishing a unified cultural tourism course.

 
The Gyeyang Bridge, with its pedestrian walkway and four elevator towers, had a negative public image due to past suicide incidents and a general sense of neglect. This final phase directly addresses these issues by installing scenic lighting, DID video panels, media facades, and a trick-art zone, creating a new, vibrant urban space.

More than a simple beautification effort, the project is a healing-oriented urban regeneration initiative that combines art with a powerful message of life affirmation. It utilizes digital video content to display suicide prevention messages and features creative works by local university students, serving as a cultural platform that connects different generations and the broader community. The project's success was also a testament to community involvement, with local volunteers actively participating in cleaning up the long-neglected space, highlighting a successful collaboration between the administration and its citizens.

 
The lighting ceremony, which will serve as the official kickoff for the 'Autumn Flower Chrysanthemum Festival' starting on September 20th, will feature a variety of performances, including a celebratory concert by popular singers, a performance by the district philharmonic orchestra, and stages featuring top-tier waltz and tango dancers.

Gyeyang-gu Mayor Yoon Hwan emphasized the project's core philosophy. "The essence of this project is not to ignore past wounds but to heal them together with the community and sublimate them into culture," he said. He added that the Gyeyang Araon Artway will become a leading cultural and tourist destination in the Seoul metropolitan area and serve as a "stepping stone" for Gyeyang to become an international tourism city.
