DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA – Hanbat Library, a prominent cultural institution in Daejeon, has announced an engaging outreach program designed to bring the magic of live theater directly to young children. Faced with a temporary closure for essential green remodeling from May to November, the library has ingeniously organized a series of traveling puppet shows that will visit selected kindergartens across the city. This initiative aims to ensure that even while the library building is undergoing renovations, its commitment to fostering literacy and imagination in young minds remains unwavering.

The program kicked off in May with a captivating rendition of 'The Unfair Wolf,' a delightful reinterpretation of the classic tale of the Three Little Pigs. Performances were held on May 7th, 14th, and 21st at 10:00 AM, enchanting the young audiences at Sambu Kindergarten, Duri Elementary School Attached Kindergarten, and Geumdong Elementary School Attached Kindergarten. These 90-minute interactive sessions went beyond mere storytelling, incorporating lively dances, engaging picture book readings, and memorable photo opportunities with the beloved puppet characters. The selection process for participating kindergartens involved a popular first-come, first-served registration held on April 14th, which saw an overwhelming response, ultimately leading to the selection of 14 enthusiastic institutions. Following the successful launch with 'The Unfair Wolf,' Hanbat Library has curated a diverse and appealing lineup of puppet shows scheduled throughout the remaining months of their temporary closure. The schedule includes: 'The Toy Soldier' in June, promising tales of bravery and adventure; 'The Rabbit's Trial' in July, likely to explore themes of justice and wit; 'The Forest Dressmaker' in September, hinting at creativity and craftsmanship; 'Prince Cinderella' in October, offering a playful twist on a classic fairy tale; and concluding in November with the beloved Korean folktale 'The Old Woman Who Made Red Bean Porridge and the Tiger,' a story rich in cultural heritage and valuable life lessons.
