Seoul, South Korea – A diverse range of 35 vehicles, including electric vehicles, hybrids, and traditional internal combustion engine cars, have been shortlisted for the prestigious "Car of the Year" award in South Korea. The Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA) announced the nominees on february, marking the start of a rigorous evaluation process.
The annual award recognizes the most outstanding vehicles launched in the South Korean market. This year's contenders showcase the industry's shift towards electrification, with 29 electrified models making the cut. The dominance of SUVs and crossovers also reflects changing consumer preferences.
"The nominees for this year's award highlight the automotive industry's rapid evolution," said [Name], President of KAJA. "The increasing number of electrified vehicles and the focus on SUVs underscore the changing landscape of the South Korean market."
Notable nominees include the Genesis G80 electric, the Renault Korea XM3, and various models from global brands like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Porsche. The judges will evaluate these vehicles based on criteria such as performance, design, safety, technology, and value for money.
The global economic slowdown has had a noticeable impact on the number of new car launches in South Korea, resulting in a slightly smaller pool of nominees compared to previous years. However, the quality and diversity of the shortlisted vehicles remain high.
The final winners will be announced in February following a series of rigorous tests and evaluations. The "Car of the Year" award, along with 13 other category awards, will be presented at a special ceremony.
