16 teams and 80 participants from across the province showcase life-saving emergency response skills.

The Chungnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 15th that the Taean Senior Club team, representing the Taean Fire Station, won the grand prize at the "4th CPR Contest for Seniors" held at the provincial government's Culture and Arts Center grand auditorium on the 14th.

The Chungnam Fire Headquarters holds this competition annually to enhance seniors' CPR response capabilities and protect precious lives through prompt emergency treatment when cardiac arrest patients occur.

This year, 80 seniors aged 65 and older, representing 16 fire stations across the province, participated to showcase the CPR skills they have cultivated.

Participating teams expressed cardiac arrest situations that could occur in daily life through short plays within 5 minutes, demonstrating CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) usage methods in a fierce competition.

Governor's awards were presented to the Taean Senior Club team representing the Taean Fire Station, which won the grand prize, along with the Nonsan Senior Club team (Nonsan Fire Station) for the top excellence award, and the Buyeo County Senior Welfare Center team (Buyeo Fire Station) and Byeongcheon-myeon Residents team of Cheonan (Cheonan Dongnam Fire Station) for the excellence awards.

Subsequently, four teams received encouragement awards from the Chairman of the Provincial Assembly, while four performance award teams and four harmony award teams received awards from the President of the Korean Red Cross Chungnam Chapter and the Head of the Daejeon-Sejong-Chungnam Branch of the Korea Fire Safety Institute, respectively.

Notably, the significance of this year's competition was heightened by a case where a participant from the winning team of the 3rd competition held last year performed CPR on a cardiac arrest patient at a sauna in Buyeo in December of the same year, saving a life.

Baek Seung-doo, acting head of the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, stated, "CPR is a precious life-saving skill that anyone must learn regardless of age," adding, "We will do our utmost so that all provincial residents can participate in spreading a safety culture that saves lives."
