The Rural Development Administration (RDA) has announced the development and distribution of a new sesame variety called 'Hero'. This new variety boasts the highest yield among sesame varieties developed so far, with 158kg per 10a, which is 28% more than the existing variety 'Gunbaek'. 'Hero' is also resistant to various diseases, making it a promising option for stable cultivation.
'Hero' is expected to be a boon for farmers, as it can increase their income due to the higher yield. The RDA is planning to conduct a new technology demonstration project in 6 regions this year to evaluate the excellence of 'Hero' and promote its early spread.
"We will strive to support farmers' income improvement and stable cultivation by rapidly distributing 'Hero', a sesame variety with high yield and disease resistance," said Kim Ki-young, head of the RDA's Upland Crop Development Division. "As sesame has been added to the strategic crop direct payment system this year, cultivation is expected to expand."
Seed applications for 'Hero' are being accepted individually at the Korea Agricultural Technology Advancement Agency's Seed Plaza.
