DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA – The eastern quadrant of Daejeon has welcomed a significant addition to its cultural landscape with the grand opening of the East Daejeon Library. The inauguration ceremony, held on the 1st of this month, marked a pivotal moment for the city, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of approximately two hundred attendees. Among the distinguished guests were Daejeon Metropolitan City Mayor Lee Jang-woo and Daejeon City Council Chairman Cho Won-hwi, alongside a diverse assembly of local leaders and engaged citizens.

The library’s opening was celebrated with a series of thoughtfully curated events, the highlight of which was an exclusive ‘Meeting with Author Kim Young-ha.’ The renowned South Korean author captivated the audience, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and literary insights. The library boasts four innovative creative experience zones, including a dedicated Children’s Workshop (어린이공작실) designed to spark young imaginations and a Youth Creative Studio (청소년창작실) intended to nurture adolescent talents. Furthermore, well-appointed reading rooms are conveniently located on each floor, providing accessible spaces for study and literary exploration.

A distinctive architectural feature that has already garnered significant attention is the ‘Light Bookshelves’ (빛의 서가). This symbolic space draws inspiration from the etymological roots of ‘Gayang-dong,’ the neighborhood where the library is situated. The East Daejeon Library extends its services to the public six days a week, operating from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, with the exception of Fridays and public holidays, which are designated as closing days for maintenance and administrative purposes.
