INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA – The Incheon Metropolitan City government has announced a significant upgrade to its public transportation information system, now providing real-time data on the availability of remaining seats on regular bus routes serving the Yeongjong Island area, including the bustling Yeongjong Sky City and the Incheon International Airport. This initiative, effective immediately, aims to improve the commuting experience for Incheon residents and travelers utilizing these key transportation corridors.

Previously, real-time seat availability information was primarily limited to express (intercity) bus services. However, recognizing the unique operational characteristics of regular buses traversing dedicated car roads to Yeongjong and the airport – where standing passengers are typically not permitted for safety and efficiency reasons – the city has expanded this valuable service to encompass a wider range of bus lines.

A total of 17 bus routes will now feature the real-time remaining seat information. This includes 14 seat bus routes, specifically numbers 111, 111B, 117, 302, 303, 303-1, 304, 306, 306A, 307, 308, 310, 320, and 330. Additionally, three trunk bus routes, 202, 202A, and 223A, are also included in this expanded service. For the remaining bus routes where standing is allowed, the existing system displaying congestion levels – categorized as crowded, normal, or available – will continue to be in place.

Commuters can readily access this enhanced information through various channels. The real-time seat availability will be integrated into the Incheon Bus Information System website and mobile application. Furthermore, bus information display terminals installed at bus stops along these routes will also show the number of remaining seats. For added convenience, the data will also be accessible through popular South Korean online platforms such as Naver and Kakao Maps, allowing passengers to plan their journeys more effectively.

Kim In-soo, the head of Incheon Metropolitan City's Transportation Bureau, emphasized the city's commitment to enhancing public transportation for its citizens. "This expansion of real-time seat availability information is a direct response to the needs of our residents who rely on these bus routes to access Yeongjong and the airport," stated Mr. Kim. "By providing this information, we aim to reduce uncertainty and improve the overall comfort and efficiency of their commute. We are dedicated to continuously implementing policies that address and alleviate transportation inconveniences faced by our citizens."

This initiative is expected to be particularly beneficial for residents of Yeongjong Sky City, airport employees, and travelers heading to or from Incheon International Airport, enabling them to make more informed decisions about their travel and potentially avoid waiting for buses with no available seats.
