Core of the Urban Regeneration New Deal Project... Expected to revitalize the local economy and commercial district
Daejeon City is embarking in earnest on the 'Eoullim Green Center' project, a core initiative to transform the Daejeon Station area into a new urban hub where culture, economy, and tourism converge.
This project, selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, will be a key anchor facility for the 'Daejeon Station Area Urban Regeneration Project.' It will be developed as a complex public infrastructure combining various urban regeneration functions, including resolving parking shortages, supporting startups, promoting local collaboration, and securing community spaces for residents.
The city plans to finalize the design in the first half of this year and commence construction in September, with the goal of completion by December 2026. Opinions gathered from local residents during a public briefing held on the 30th of last month will be actively incorporated into the design to create a practical, community-tailored facility.
The 'Eoullim Green Center' will be built on a 1,344㎡ site in the vicinity of 31-28 Jeong-dong, Dong-gu, with a total floor area of 2,646.6㎡ and three above-ground floors.
Key facilities include: ▲Community spaces for resident interaction ▲Rental-type win-win cooperation stores (4 units) ▲Public parking lot (49 spaces) ▲Small park (353.1㎡).
The first floor will feature a community platform for local residents and rental-type stores to support community interaction and local collaboration. Parking facilities will be located on the 2nd and 3rd floors and the rooftop to address the chronic parking shortage around Daejeon Station.
In particular, the Eoullim Green Center is expected to create synergy beyond a simple building by being linked with the nearby 'Local Biz Platform' and 'Regional Culture and Tourism Hub' development projects. While these projects serve different functions, their organic connection will play a pivotal role in transforming the Daejeon Station area into a complex center where culture, economy, and tourism are integrated.
This project is evaluated as a practical model that integrates the three core values of urban regeneration – local economic revitalization, social safety net strengthening, and residential environment improvement – going beyond mere space creation.
Daejeon City stated, "With the establishment of the Eoullim Green Center, we anticipate a virtuous cycle that will not only improve the quality of life for local residents and merchants but also enhance the overall competitiveness of the Daejeon Station area and contribute to the revitalization of the wider economic region. We will continue to actively listen to residents' opinions and complete community-tailored urban regeneration."
The Daejeon Station area Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, including the Eoullim Green Center, is scheduled for sequential completion by 2026.
