Daejeon Metropolitan City has announced the implementation of comprehensive safety inspections from May 15th to June 18th, spanning five weeks, to proactively mitigate potential damage from localized torrential rains and typhoons anticipated during the summer season and to ensure the safety of its citizens.
These inspections will encompass all disaster management responsible entities, including the city's main offices, affiliated agencies, the five autonomous districts, and public corporations. The focus will be on extensively reviewing the establishment of pre-emptive response systems and the management status of disaster-vulnerable areas.
Key inspection areas include: ▲ the operational status of the emergency response system and situation rooms, ▲ the inspection and management conditions of disaster-prone areas and facilities, ▲ the maintenance status of drainage pump stations, rivers, and drainage channels, ▲ flood preparedness measures at large-scale construction sites, ▲ the securing of disaster relief supplies and the establishment of recovery systems, ▲ the promotion of disaster preparedness education and training, and ▲ the progress of disaster prevention and recovery projects.
Notably, the city will intensify its pre-emptive inspections of areas with a high risk of casualties, such as those prone to landslides, river flooding, and inundation of underground spaces. Furthermore, the review will critically assess the establishment of resident evacuation plans and the control systems for hazardous areas.
A representative from Daejeon City emphasized, "We anticipate an increased risk of natural disasters this summer due to the impact of abnormal climate patterns. Only proactive and thorough preparation can safeguard the lives and property of our citizens."
The official further stated, "Through these inspections, we aim to eliminate blind spots in our disaster preparedness and establish a practical disaster response system capable of immediate on-site action."
In conclusion, the city official urged, "We kindly request that all citizens familiarize themselves with disaster preparedness guidelines in advance and actively adhere to safety regulations."
