SEOUL — The U.S. Men's National Team has unveiled its 22-man roster for the upcoming September international window, featuring the return of key players and a few surprise call-ups. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino's squad will travel to Asia to face South Korea, led by coach Hong Myung-bo, on September 7, followed by a match against Japan on September 10.

The biggest news is the return of star forward Christian Pulisic, who missed the CONCACAF Gold Cup over the summer. The AC Milan winger, often considered the face of American soccer, is back in the fold after a period of rest following a demanding club season. His presence will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the American attack against two formidable Asian opponents. Pulisic, with 32 goals in 78 international appearances, will be a central figure in Pochettino's plans.

Alongside Pulisic, the roster includes a mix of established veterans and promising young talents. The 28-year-old, who plays for Cesena in Italy's Serie B, hasn't been part of a senior national team camp since 2018. While he has yet to earn his first senior cap, this call-up marks a significant step in his career and brings him a step closer to making his debut. He joins fellow goalkeepers Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati) and Matt Freese (New York City FC).

A few notable names are missing from the squad due to a combination of injuries, transfers, and tactical decisions. Midfielder Weston McKennie (Juventus) and goalkeeper Matt Turner (New England Revolution), both mainstays of the team, have been omitted. According to Pochettino, McKennie's absence is not related to injury but rather his recent lack of playing time at Juventus and a desire to give other players a chance to compete. The coach noted that with the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, managing player fatigue is a key consideration.

"We know Weston's talent well, and we want to give him the opportunity to compete for a spot on the field every week," Pochettino said, suggesting a focus on rewarding players who are in top form with their clubs.

Other key players left off the list include fullback Antonee Robinson (Fulham) and attacking midfielder Giovanni Reyna (Borussia Mönchengladbach), both likely due to fitness or recent club-related issues. The coaching staff will be evaluating their fitness levels in preparation for the next round of international matches.

The full 23-man roster is expected to be finalized soon, with one player yet to be named. This two-match trip to Asia provides a crucial opportunity for the USMNT to test its depth and chemistry against different styles of play as they continue preparations for upcoming competitions and the 2026 World Cup.
