The 16th Asan National Fringe Festival

Asan, South Chungcheong Province – The city of Asan will host the 16th annual Asan National Fringe Festival, a vibrant celebration of the performing arts. The event, organized by the Asan branch of the Federation of Korean Arts and Culture Organizations, aims to provide a platform for cultural expression and promote a diverse arts scene.
Preliminary rounds will take place on September 20-21, with the final competition scheduled for October 11 from 7 PM to 9 PM. Both events will be held on a special stage along the Gingko Tree Road in Gokgyocheon Stream.
The festival is open to everyone, from amateurs to professional groups, with no restrictions on genre. Participants can showcase their talents in a wide range of categories, including:
Dance: Hip-hop, traditional dance, contemporary dance, ballroom, and more.
Vocal: Solo singers, bands, and trot music.
Instrumental Performance
Traditional Arts: Folk songs (minyo) and pansori.
Other Performances: Magic and any other individual acts.
This year's festival will feature an impressive prize pool. The top team will be awarded the grand prize of 5 million KRW, while other winners will receive various prizes, including:
Excellence Award (1 team): 2 million KRW
Encouragement Award (1 team): 1 million KRW
Popularity Award (1 team): 1 million KRW
Special Category Awards (4 teams): 500,000 KRW each
All winners will also receive a trophy and a certificate.
The festival has grown in popularity each year, drawing participants from across the nation, including Gimhae, Changwon, Ulsan, Busan, Wonju, Gyeongju, and Gwangju, in addition to nearby Asan and Cheonan.
Lee Dong-hyun, head of the Asan branch of the Federation of Korean Arts and Culture Organizations, noted that the preliminary rounds have been expanded to two days to accommodate participants traveling from distant regions. "We've put a lot of effort into making sure the festival is well-prepared and runs smoothly," Lee said. "We expect to see some incredible talent and encourage everyone to come and enjoy the festival, starting with the preliminary rounds."
