Seoul, South Korea – Unid (014830), a leading chemical company, announced on February 17th that it has completed the first phase of its new caustic potash production plant in Yichang, Hubei Province, China. The plant has now commenced operations.
This project represents a significant investment of 230 billion won (approximately 175 million USD) by Unid to establish a total production capacity of 180,000 tons of caustic potash in Yichang. The first phase of the project has resulted in the construction of a new facility with a capacity of 90,000 tons.
Unid is currently working on the second phase of the project, which aims to add another 90,000 tons of production capacity by 2027. Upon completion of the second phase, the total production capacity of Unid's Chinese subsidiary will increase from the current 320,000 tons to 500,000 tons.
The Yichang project is a strategic move by Unid to cater to the growing market demand in central and western China, including Guangdong Province. The project also offers cost advantages by reducing logistics expenses. By continuously expanding its production volume in China, Unid aims to strengthen its market dominance and establish a stable and efficient supply chain. The company also plans to diversify its product portfolio by producing 52,000 tons of calcined potassium carbonate.
A representative from Unid stated, "This project marks a significant turning point for us, strengthening our position in the Chinese market and enhancing our competitiveness in the global arena. By expanding our market reach into inland China and increasing productivity, this new production base will play a crucial role in establishing a more stable revenue stream."
