Hapcheon, South Korea – The Hapcheon Museum celebrated its 20th anniversary with a grand reopening on December 26, unveiling a newly renovated facility that boasts expanded storage space, modernized exhibition halls, and state-of-the-art interactive exhibits.
After a year-long renovation project, the museum has significantly increased its collection, particularly with the addition of 998 artifacts from the Okjeon Tomb Cluster. The expanded storage space allows for better preservation of these valuable historical pieces.
The permanent exhibition halls have been redesigned to offer a more immersive and engaging experience for visitors. The first floor showcases the history of Hapcheon from prehistoric times to the Three Kingdoms period, while the second floor is dedicated to the world-renowned Okjeon Tomb Cluster. Visitors can now explore a wider range of authentic artifacts, with the proportion of genuine exhibits increasing from 43% to 79%.
To enhance the visitor experience, the museum has incorporated smart technology. Interactive displays and augmented reality (AR) experiences allow visitors to explore the exhibits in new and exciting ways. A central hall features an immersive media art installation, providing a visually stunning introduction to the museum's collection.
To commemorate the reopening, the museum is hosting a special exhibition titled "Nearby Neighbors: The Gaya Story of Hapcheon and Goryeong" until March 30, 2025. This exhibition features a collection of precious artifacts from both the Okjeon Tomb Cluster in Hapcheon and the Jisangdong Tomb Cluster in Goryeong, offering a unique opportunity to compare and contrast the cultural heritage of these two regions.
Hapcheon County Mayor Kim Yoon-cheol expressed his enthusiasm for the reopening, stating, "We have prepared a lot for our visitors, including new permanent exhibitions, AR experiences, and special exhibitions. We hope that families, couples, and friends will visit the Hapcheon Museum and create lasting memories."
The Hapcheon Museum is open from 9 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, please visit the museum's website or call +82 55 930-4882.
