SEOCHEON, South Korea - The South Chungcheong Provincial Council's research group, dedicated to planning a historical and cultural festival at the site of Korea's first Bible transmission (led by Representative Jeon Ik-hyeon), convened its second meeting on May 9th at the Bible Transmission Memorial Hall in Seocheon County. The meeting focused on developing a festival to commemorate the historical significance of this landmark location.
During the session, the research group initiated a research service report aimed at concretizing the planning and execution of a cultural festival centered around Maryang Port, a historical asset recognized as Korea's first site of Bible transmission.
The research service, slated to run for approximately seven months from May to November of this year, will encompass an analysis of the historical and cultural significance of Maryang Port. It will also involve a review of similar domestic and international cases, the development of core festival programs, and the proposal of sustainable festival strategies that include economic linkages with local tourism. Research group members engaged in in-depth discussions, particularly focusing on detailed strategies to connect the festival with the revitalization of the local economy.
Representative Jeon Ik-hyeon (Seocheon 1, Democratic Party of Korea), the leader of the research group, emphasized, "Maryang Port, the first site of Bible transmission in Korea, is like a hidden treasure of Seocheon." He further stated, "Based on its historical value and cultural significance, we will strive to enhance local pride and create a sustainable model for regional festivals."
