LONDON – SoluM, a global specialist in electronic components and smart solutions, has been recognized for its groundbreaking work in retail transformation, jointly winning the coveted 'Digital Transformation Project of the Year, UK' at the 'RTIH Innovation Awards 2025.' The accolade was awarded for a collaborative project with the UK and Ireland’s leading electrical retailer, Currys, and retail technology firm, Bestcom.
The RTIH Innovation Awards are a prestigious fixture in the UK retail industry, celebrating the most innovative examples of digital transformation. The winning project was highly praised for its successful implementation in optimizing store operations, enhancing the customer experience, and advancing sustainable management practices across nearly 300 Currys stores throughout the UK and Ireland.
Revolutionizing the Storefront with ESL Technology
The core of the project involved the mass deployment of SoluM’s Newton Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) technology, integrated with Bestcom’s data unification platform. By replacing traditional paper price tags with real-time updatable digital displays, Currys has significantly enhanced pricing accuracy and promotional consistency. This digital shift has also guaranteed operational efficiency and transparency by ensuring seamless data synchronization between the retail headquarters and its extensive network of physical stores.
This transformation is far more than a simple system upgrade. It has yielded tangible benefits, including a substantial reduction in paper waste, streamlined workflows, and a marked increase in employee productivity. By freeing staff from repetitive manual tasks, the new system allows them to concentrate on providing superior customer service and engagement. This focus on empowering employees has made the project a representative case study of 'People-Centered Innovation', restoring the human element to the retail experience.
Mark Duckworth, Head of SoluM UK & Ireland, expressed his satisfaction: "It is extremely meaningful that SoluM's technological prowess and engineering capabilities have contributed to the innovation of the global retail industry. We are committed to continuing to provide high-quality solutions that realize customer-centric innovation and lead the digital transformation of the retail sector."
SoluM: A Leader in Smart Solutions
Established in 2015 following a spin-off from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, SoluM has established itself as a world-leading company in power solutions, display technology, and Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL). The company's proprietary Newton Protocol is a low-power, high-efficiency wireless communication technology optimized for ESL systems. This advanced protocol enables rapid and stable control of over 60,000 devices using a single gateway, underscoring the technical excellence that propelled the project to success.
The joint victory at the 'RTIH Innovation Awards 2025' solidifies SoluM's position as a key enabler of digital transformation in the global retail landscape, setting a new benchmark for operational excellence and innovative customer engagement.
