Ulsan's Ulju-gun is poised to become home to a state-of-the-art park golf course, aiming to cater to the rapidly growing popularity of the sport in the region. The project, which has secured conditional approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, is expected to significantly boost the local economy and provide a new recreational outlet for residents.
Located near the Oego-san Onggi Village, the 48,630 square-meter course will feature 36 holes and is expected to cost approximately 2 billion won to construct. The project, which was selected through a competitive bidding process, will utilize a disused railway site.
Despite facing initial challenges due to the site being located within a development restricted area, the county successfully negotiated with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to secure the necessary approvals. The main concerns addressed during the negotiations included the appropriate size of the course and ensuring the safety of the facility.
The county has conducted thorough surveys to demonstrate the need for additional park golf facilities in the region and has conducted comprehensive safety assessments. While there were some conditions attached to the approval, such as a review of the parking lot size and the use of environmentally friendly materials, the county is confident that these can be addressed.
The new park golf course is expected to attract a significant number of visitors, both locally and from other parts of the country. With the increasing popularity of park golf, the county anticipates that the course will host numerous tournaments, generating significant economic benefits for the local community.
In addition to the recreational benefits, the new course is expected to complement the existing tourist attractions in the area, such as the Oego-san Onggi Village and the Namchang Onggi Jonggi Market. The county is also considering urban regeneration projects in the Namchang area to further enhance the local economy.
