Theme of Solving and Revitalizing Local Community Challenges… Total of 21 Winners Selected with 4.5 Million Won in Prizes

Bucheon City announced that it will hold the ‘2026 Bucheon Webtoon Convergence Contest’ from October 19 to November 11, inviting creative ideas expressed through webtoons to solve local community issues.

The upcoming contest is co-hosted and co-organized by Bucheon University and Seoul Theological University, with sponsorship from Bucheon City, the Gyeonggi Content Agency, the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency, and the Korea Cartoonists Association.

Now in its 3rd year, this contest is a government-academia cooperation project promoted through collaboration between local governments, universities, and cultural industry-related organizations. Its purpose is to expand webtoon creation opportunities and discover talented individuals who will lead the local content industry.

This year’s theme is ‘Finding Solutions and Revitalization Measures for Local Community Challenges.’ Gyeonggi Province residents, employees working at companies located in Gyeonggi Province, and students currently enrolled in middle schools, high schools, and universities within the province are eligible to participate. Interested participants can create a webtoon consisting of 4 to 10 panels matching the theme and submit it via Google Forms or by scanning the QR code on the event poster.

A judging committee composed of five experts in relevant fields will comprehensively evaluate the entries based on creativity, popularity, and work completion. Through this evaluation, a total of 21 winners will be selected for awards, including the Grand Prize (President of Bucheon University Award), Top Excellence Award, Excellence Award, and Encouragement Award, with a total prize pool of 4.5 million won.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on November 25 at the Convention Hall on the 1st floor of the Webtoon Convergence Center. The winning works will also be exhibited in various spaces from November until January of next year to be showcased to citizens.

Kim Soo-hyun, Head of the Content Tourism Division at Bucheon City, stated, "As this contest enters its 3rd year, it is serving as a solid foundation for nurturing the local webtoon ecosystem. Moving forward, we will continue to cooperate with universities and related organizations to enhance regional content competitiveness and create an environment where citizens and creators grow together."
