Seoul, South Korea – January 13, 2024 – Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) announced today that it will be expanding its “Regional Love Rail Travel” program to 33 regions across the country as part of its ongoing efforts to revitalize local economies and tourism in areas experiencing population decline.
Launched in August of last year, the program offers significant discounts on train tickets and provides access to various tourist attractions. To celebrate the New Year and encourage more participation, Korail is hosting a special event in January, offering 100 lucky travelers free tickets to popular tourist trains such as the Donghae Santa Train and Baekdudaegan Gorge Train.
To enter the contest, participants simply need to scan a QR code located at designated tourist spots within each region using the Korail Talk mobile app. A list of these spots can be found on the Korail website.
Korail recently added ten new regions to the program, including Mungyeong, Andong, Yeongdeok, Ulleung, Uljin in Gyeongsangbuk-do; Goesan in Chungcheongbuk-do; Nonsan and Boryeong in Chungcheongnam-do; Jeongeup in Jeollabuk-do; and Goksung in Jeollanam-do. With these additions, Korail now offers over 300 travel packages and independent travel options, such as a Jeongup Naejangsan Healing Trip and a Nonsan Strawberry Picking Experience.
“We hope that people will enjoy exploring the many beautiful corners of our country through safe and convenient rail travel,” said Lee Min-seong, head of Korail’s customer marketing team. “We will continue to develop a variety of travel products to inject new life into regions experiencing population decline.”
