Changwon, South Korea – Hyosung Heavy Industries announced today that it has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 10 trillion won in cumulative circuit breaker production, a first for a domestic heavy electrical equipment company.

The company held a ceremony at its Changwon plant on November 26th to commemorate this achievement. Since its first circuit breaker production in 1977, Hyosung Heavy Industries has consistently expanded its production, surpassing 1 trillion won in 1997, 5 trillion won in 2013, and now reaching the 10 trillion won mark.

Circuit breakers are essential electrical equipment that quickly interrupt the flow of electric current in the event of a fault or overload, protecting electrical equipment and preventing accidents.

Over the past 50 years, Hyosung Heavy Industries has invested heavily in research and development in the power transmission sector, earning recognition for its technological prowess in ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers both domestically and internationally.

Since developing its first 170 kV gas circuit breaker (GCB) in 1978, the company has achieved numerous milestones, including the world's first two-section 800 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) in 1999, South Korea's first 362 kV GIS in 2004, and the world's second two-section 1100 kV GIS in 2007.

In 2016, Hyosung Heavy Industries began full-scale operation of its Pune circuit breaker plant in India and has since supplied large-scale GIS systems to markets in the Middle East, North America, and recently, Europe, including Sweden and Iceland. This year, the company secured a 22 billion won contract to supply circuit breakers to Iceland's state-owned electric company, marking the largest single GIS supply contract in Europe.
