Seoul, South Korea – South Korea is set to introduce several new policies aimed at improving the lives of its citizens. Starting next year, the government will expand the availability of mobile resident registration cards and enhance its social contribution programs.

Mobile Resident Registration Cards

From the first quarter of next year, all South Korean citizens aged 17 and over will be eligible to obtain a mobile resident registration card. This digital ID can be issued through either an IC card or a QR code. The mobile ID will be accepted as a valid form of identification in various settings, including government offices and financial institutions.

Enhanced Social Contribution Programs

Benefit Notification Service: The government will launch a new service that proactively notifies citizens about public benefits they may be eligible for. This service will be accessible through popular private apps such as banking apps and Naver.
Expanded Hometown Love Contribution Program: The annual cap on donations to local governments will increase from 5 million won to 20 million won. This program allows individuals to donate to their hometown or any other local government and receive tax benefits and regional products in return. The government will also provide increased tax deductions for donations exceeding 100,000 won.
Support for Victims of North Korean Threats: Following the amendment of the Civil Defense Basic Act, the government will provide support to citizens who have suffered direct harm from North Korean provocations, such as the dispersal of leaflets.
These new policies are expected to improve the quality of life for South Korean citizens by providing greater convenience, enhancing social services, and strengthening national security.
