Gangwon State, Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Chuncheon City, and K-water Share Vision for Soyanggang Dam Floating Photovoltaic Project

Gangwon Special Self-Governing State (Governor Woo Sang-ho, hereinafter "Gangwon State") held the "Soyanggang Dam Floating Photovoltaic Vision Declaration Event" on the 30th at the Soyanggang Dam Water Culture Center, alongside the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Chuncheon City, and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water).

The event was attended by Gangwon State Governor Woo Sang-ho, Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Kim Sung-hwan, Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Dong-han, the Head of the Water Resources and Environment Division at K-water, and representatives from related organizations. Attendees shared the promotion direction and future vision for the Soyanggang Dam floating photovoltaic project.

The Soyanggang Dam floating photovoltaic project is a resident-inclusive renewable energy initiative that utilizes Gangwon’s abundant water resources and solar energy to produce clean energy, with the generated revenue shared with local residents.

Going beyond the mere installation of renewable energy generation facilities, the project holds significant meaning in building a new regional coexistence model where profits are returned to the local community, and local residents actively participate in energy production and revenue sharing.

This vision declaration was arranged to officially launch the "Water-Light Energy Lake Belt" creation—a key pledge of the 9th popular-election term—and to reaffirm collaborative commitment toward leaping forward as South Korea's clean energy hub.

Gangwon State, the Ministry of Climate, Chuncheon City, and K-water shared a vision report containing the implementation plan for the Soyanggang Dam floating photovoltaic project and regional coexistence measures, and jointly signed photovoltaic panels to pledge the project's successful execution and the expansion of clean energy.

Gangwon State Governor Woo Sang-ho stated, "This will be an energy transition led by the residents," adding, "We will make clean energy a source of income for residents, a competitive edge for businesses, and a new driver of jobs and growth for Gangwon."
