Jeonbuk Culture and Tourism Foundation to hold an exhibition of works by Jeonju Intangible Heritage masters
19 artisans' works on display at the White Western-style House from September 18 to October 25

The Jeonbuk State Culture and Tourism Foundation (CEO Lee Kyung-yoon, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) is holding the Jeonju Intangible Heritage Master Exhibition "Baeknyeon-illo" at the complex cultural space White Western-style House (inside Jeonju Hanok Village) from September 18 to October 25.

"Baeknyeon-illo," prepared as a public event for Jeonju's intangible heritage masters, introduces the works and artistic worlds of 19 artisans who have walked a single path for a long time.

Continuing the tradition of sharing the value and meaning of traditional technology every year, this exhibition expands its venue to the White Western-style House in partnership with the Foundation following previous events at Jeon-la-gam-yeong and the Royal Portrait Museum (Eojin Museum), sharing the value of traditional crafts.

Beyond simply showcasing finished works, the exhibition focuses on the production methods and material characteristics of the artisans. It shows the time it takes for materials such as iron, wood, traditional Korean paper (hanji), thread, bamboo, lacquer (otchil), and mother-of-pearl to be transformed into works of art through repeated processes.

In addition, classical Eastern texts and phrases from ancient poetry capturing the characteristics of the artisans and the intangible heritage field are arranged alongside to add deeper meaning to the works.

The exhibition is divided into two parts. Part 1 runs from September 18 to October 6, featuring 10 artisans: Kim Jong-yeon (Folk Wood Carver), Kim Hye-mi-ja (Colored Paper Artisan), Park Gap-soon (Paper Mache Artisan), Byeon Gyeong-hwan (Jeonju Mountmaker), Shin Ae-ja (Traditional Seamstress), Eom Jae-soo (Fan Maker), Lee Eui-shik (Lacquer Master), Lee Jong-deok (Branched Bronze Ware Artisan), Choe Dae-gyu (Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Artisan), and Choi Seong-il (Paper Craft Artisan).

Part 2, running from October 9 to 25, features works by 9 artisans: Kim Seon-ae (Paper Cord Craft Artisan), Kim Seon-ja (Traditional Knot Artisan), Kim Han-il (Blacksmith), Park Gye-ho (Fan Maker), Bang Hwa-seon (Fan Maker), Shin Woo-soon (Dancheong Artisan), Lee Myung-bok (Ceramic Master), Cho Jung-hyung (Local Liquor Maker), and Choi Byung-yong (Musical Instrument Maker).

CEO Lee Kyung-yoon said, "This is a meaningful occasion to meet in one place the lives and skills of artisans who have quietly kept traditions alive in the region," adding, "We will continue our efforts to widely publicize our region's precious intangible heritage to the residents and ensure its continuous transmission."

Meanwhile, this year's "Baeknyeon-illo" exhibition is hosted by Jeonju City, and organized by the Foundation and the corporation Madang. The exhibition will be closed on October 7 and 8 between Parts 1 and 2 for artwork replacement.
