SEOUL — Lotte Global Logistics (Lotte Takbae) is officially shifting gears into a "7-day-a-week" delivery system, spearheaded by its partnership with the global fashion giant Uniqlo. This strategic pivot aims to dominate the fashion e-commerce sector, where rapid delivery has become the ultimate metric for customer satisfaction and brand loyalty.
According to industry sources on March 10, Lotte Global Logistics successfully test-ran its holiday delivery system for Uniqlo online store orders during the recent March 1st Movement Day long weekend. Field offices and delivery personnel were instructed to prioritize "Uniqlo 7-day test volumes" to ensure same-day arrival. This move signals Lotte’s intent to bridge the "weekend gap" that has historically slowed down the fashion supply chain.
Since officially introducing the 7-day service in January, Lotte Global Logistics has been overhauling its weekday-centric operations. The service currently covers major urban districts across South Korea, allowing for pickup and delivery on Sundays and public holidays. While remote rural areas and parts of Jeju Island are currently excluded, the service represents a major leap in logistics infrastructure.
The decision to lead this expansion with Uniqlo is highly calculated. Fashion consumers are notoriously sensitive to trends and delivery speed. Data shows that online shopping traffic peaks during weekends; however, when customers are forced to wait until the following Tuesday or Wednesday for a Saturday order, purchase conversion rates drop and churn rates rise. For platforms, this often results in switching logistics providers to those who can offer "always-on" delivery.
The synergy is further bolstered by corporate ties. FRL Korea, the operator of Uniqlo in South Korea, is a joint venture with Lotte Shopping, which holds a 49% stake. As Uniqlo continues to scale its digital storefront, Lotte Global Logistics has become its primary engine for growth.
Industry experts note that the demand for weekend logistics is surging particularly in the fashion and beauty categories. A robust 7-day network not only ensures faster outbound shipping but also accelerates the processing of returns and exchanges—a critical pain point in the apparel industry.
"We aim to maximize customer satisfaction by stabilizing our 7-day delivery system and offering differentiated services such as 'Promised Delivery' and 'Urgent Delivery,'" said a representative from Lotte Global Logistics. "We are committed to providing customized solutions that meet the evolving needs of our partners and their customers."
With this move, Lotte is positioning itself to compete head-to-head with other logistics giants currently vying for the lucrative "last-mile" supremacy in Korea's hyper-competitive e-commerce landscape.
