Siheung City (Mayor Lim Byeong-taek) will officially implement the 'Siheung Pass+ (Plus)' project, an integrated and expanded transportation subsidy program for children and youth, starting on July 1st.
According to the city, the 'Siheung-type Basic Transportation Subsidy Project for Children and Youth' for ages 7-18, which began in October 2021, and the 'Gyeonggi Province Youth Transportation Subsidy Project' for ages 6-18, which began in May 2024, have been operating separately. The city's policy is to integrate these two programs, which have similar target demographics and operational methods, to enhance administrative efficiency, improve citizen convenience, and strengthen the actual support effect.
'Siheung Pass+ (Plus)' will provide children and youth aged 6-18 with 60,000 KRW per quarter (240,000 KRW annually) from Gyeonggi Province. Siheung City residents aged 11-18 will receive an additional 120,000 KRW per quarter (480,000 KRW annually) from the city, resulting in a substantial total transportation subsidy of up to 720,000 KRW per year.
To this end, Siheung City has signed an agreement with the Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation to establish a stable operational foundation and will also operate a dedicated call center to minimize inconvenience for citizens. Furthermore, the application process has been simplified.
Previously, individuals had to register separately and link their cards for each program. However, with 'Siheung Pass+ (Plus)', a single registration and card linking will allow beneficiaries to receive subsidies from both Gyeonggi Province and Siheung City simultaneously.
Pre-registration began on May 7th, and new applicants must apply through the 'Gyeonggi Province Transportation Subsidy Website'. Existing users of the Siheung-type Basic Transportation Subsidy Project must also register anew to transition to the integrated support system. The city will provide guidance on this transition through KakaoTalk notifications and other channels.
Detailed information can be found on the Siheung-type Basic Transportation Subsidy Website and the Gyeonggi Province Transportation Subsidy Website.
Choi Gak-yong, Head of Siheung City's Public Transportation Division, stated, "Siheung City has increased citizen benefits by providing greater advantages through efficient budget management. We will ensure that more children and youth can travel safely without the burden of transportation costs through the integrated system and professional operation."
